It’s been almost a whole year of the USIA blog.
Actually, I started writing regular posts in this blog back in March of 2014, so not quite a year. In that time I’ve written thousands of words, written on dozens of topics, and done so with a big Cheshire grin on my face. You see, I love writing. And I love writing for USIA.com. I also love the outdoors, so it’s been a natural for me to take up this torch and run with it. If you’ve been a regular reader of this blog, then I would like to convey my sincerest thank you. It’s been a year (almost) of fun and learning for all of us. I hope you were entertained and I hope you’ll be coming back for more.
It’s my promise that in the next year I’ll keep finding thought-provoking topics to blog, topics about which I know you will want to read. Sometimes it’s not as easy as it looks, but hey, that’s why I get paid the big bucks (kidding). Seriously, this (almost) year in blogging has been an incredible experience. To commemorate the (almost) year, I’d like to go back over some of the blog post hits—and the misses—as voted by you, the reader, by your visits to our site.
The Hits: These were the blog posts that were visited the most in the last year. I think the frequency of visits these posts get speaks volumes about USIA.com’s readers. You are inquisitive. You are fun loving. You know quality when you see it.
Number 5 – The Crazy Things We Camo
Is camo is your favorite color? Everything just looks better in camo! However, some people take it just a little too far, entering the realm of crazy camo. Here a just a few examples: (Read the Post) Author’s Note: It’s official, camo is king!
Number 4 – Sea of Gold: Treasure of Lost Shipwrecks
Need an adventure? How about searching for a sunken treasure that has been missing for five hundred years? Maybe reading this will be your inspiration. (Read the Post) Author’s Note: Lost treasure has and always will captured our collective imagination.
Number 3 – The Lazarus Taxon – Extinct Sea Creatures That Came Back To Life
Extinction happens. But what if an animal suddenly and unexpectedly shows up after tens, hundreds, even millions of years? Sounds like something from a science fiction novel, but it happens more often than you might think. (Read the Post) Author’s Note: When I first read the phrase Lazarus Taxon I knew it would be a fascinating topic.
Number 2 – The Greatest Unsolved Mysteries of the Sea
From time immemorial, the sea has inspired stories of incredible adventure, heartbreaking disaster, and bewildering oddities. In this article, we examine some of the strangest. (Read the Post) Author’s Note: Who doesn’t love a good mystery? And what is more mysterious than the sea?
Number 1 – How to Order Custom Waders Online
At USIA, we have been making customized dry suits for almost four decades. In that time we’ve developed a system of measurement and customization that will ensure your waders will show up at your door ready to wear. What can you do to ensure you can get the right waders for you? At USIA, we recommend you follow this guide, and you will be rewarded with the waders of your dreams, or at least waders you will be proud of. (Read the Post) Author’s Note: Life is funny sometimes. This blog post was suggested to me from an acquaintance as just an off the cuff idea. I liked the idea so much that I used it, and it became my most popular post by far.
The Misses – These were the posts that for whatever reason didn’t get as much love as the others. Were they poorly written? Were they badly researched? Or are they just boring subjects nobody cares about?
Number 5 – Profiting from Pain: Cashing in on Global Warming
Number 4 – Feed Your Stoke
Number 3 – Internet Tax Fairness Act Anything But Fair
Number 2 – These Groups Are Doing Great Work for Disabled Divers
And my worst blog post ever? Stories From National Oceans Month
My conclusion: Based on these lists, it’s obvious what you want from USIA’s blog. You want mystery. You want intrigue. But most of all, you want to know more about what we do. So in the next year that’s what I aim to do: find more things to tantalize your imagination and do more to let you see behind the scenes of an American based manufacturer. Why? Because at USIA, it’s not just equipment…it’s a lifestyle!
